Railways Launch Second Special Train to Assist Stranded Tourists Amid Pahalgam Attack

Indian Railways has taken immediate action to assist stranded tourists by running a second special train from Katra to New Delhi. The train, which was initially scheduled to depart at 10:50 am, was rescheduled to 1:30 pm on Thursday, ensuring that the tourists who were in distress due to the attack are given priority for a swift return to their respective destinations.

This effort follows the launch of the first special unreserved train service, which had already commenced operations the day before, helping a significant number of tourists to evacuate safely. The second special train will travel from Shri Vaishno Devi Katra, a major pilgrimage destination in Jammu, and will halt at key stations, including Udhampur, Jammu, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Ambala, Kurukshetra, and Panipat, before reaching New Delhi Railway Station. This is in line with the first train’s schedule, which had seen significant demand due to the tragic incident that claimed the lives of at least 26 people, most of them tourists. The attack in Pahalgam had shaken the region, prompting many tourists to seek immediate return to their homes. To assist with the overwhelming number of evacuees, the special train services were swiftly arranged to facilitate the return journey of the affected individuals.

Railway officials have ensured that the special trains are unreserved to accommodate as many tourists as possible. Additionally, help desks have been set up at key stations such as Jammu Tawi and Katra, where passengers can access timely information about train services and schedules. To further assist travelers, the Railways have provided a dedicated helpline number for those looking for real-time assistance, ensuring a smoother travel experience. The helpline numbers for Jammu Tawi and Katra are actively available, offering guidance to passengers in need.

This proactive approach by Indian Railways has been a crucial part of the disaster response, addressing the pressing needs of stranded tourists and ensuring their safe transit out of the region. It also highlights the importance of robust infrastructure and response mechanisms in times of crisis. In addition to ensuring the safe return of tourists, the efforts to establish helplines and crowd management systems at various stations reflect a commitment to improving the overall passenger experience, even during distressing situations.

As the second special train departs for New Delhi, tourists who had been caught up in the turmoil of the Pahalgam attack can now rest assured that they are being cared for, with the promise of quick and safe passage back to their homes. This operation exemplifies the Railways’ swift response and commitment to providing timely assistance during emergencies, proving essential in such critical times.
