Pune School Portal Delay Puts 103 Schools’ Approval Process at Risk

Pune school portal delays have stalled the transfer of student information for the 2026-27 set approval process, with 103 secondary schools yet to finalise their records, according to a report by Lokmat – Pune. The affected schools include aided, partially aided and local-body institutions across Pune district.

The school education department has said that school-level information must be updated before student records can be moved forward for the set approval process. The records cover the number of students, classes and divisions, as well as the school’s grant status and medium of instruction. The process is being conducted through the U-DISE Plus and Saral systems.

According to the report, approvals for entries relating to classes, divisions, grant type and medium of instruction on the school portal had been completed for secondary schools in Pune district by 10.30 am on October 19. However, 103 schools had still not finalised their school portals. The list includes schools run by zilla parishads, municipalities and municipal corporations, in addition to aided institutions.

The affected schools are spread across several parts of the district. They include nine schools in Pune city, eight in Haveli, 13 in Akurdi, 10 each in Aundh and Bibwewadi, nine in Pimpri, seven in Hadapsar, five each in Yerawada, Khed and Mulshi, four in Maval, three each in Ambegaon, Baramati and Purandar, two each in Indapur and Shirur, and one in Junnar. Four additional schools had not selected their board, taking the total to 103.

The administrative sequence means that finalising the school portal is not a standalone step. The option to forward student information on the student portal becomes available only after the school portal has been finalised. Since that step has not been completed by the 103 schools, the information cannot proceed to the next stage, leaving the preparation of the 2026-27 set approval records at risk of delay.

The department has also cautioned schools that finalisation alone is not sufficient. The information entered into the system must be accurate, particularly the school’s medium of instruction. The department has stated that the concerned office will not be responsible if a school selects the wrong medium and finalises the portal. Responsibility for delays caused by failure to complete the work on time will be fixed on the respective school managements and headmasters.

The episode highlights the dependence of school administration on linked digital records. A delay at the school-portal stage prevents student information from moving through the student portal, even when other institutional details may already have received approval. For schools operated by local authorities, the issue also places the completion of routine education administration across multiple governing bodies within the same digital workflow.

Shivaji Shinde, president of the Pune city headmasters’ association, said all headmasters should immediately complete the school portal, student portal and employee information on the U-DISE Plus and Saral systems and finalise the records at the government level. The next step for the affected schools is to correct or complete their entries and finalise the school portal so that student information can be forwarded for the set approval process.
