Residents along Pune’s Katraj-Kondhwa road are facing disrupted water supply as ongoing road-widening work repeatedly damages or shifts water pipelines, according to a report by Lokmat – Pune published on October 9. Several areas are reportedly receiving little or no water, while some households are getting supplies at very low pressure.
The Katraj-Kondhwa road-widening project has remained incomplete for several years. The latest disruption has added a water-access crisis to the existing difficulties associated with the delayed road work. Lokmat reported that pipelines are repeatedly being moved or damaged during construction, but that a permanent solution to the resulting inconvenience has not been implemented.
Residents in some locations reportedly receive water only once a week on upper floors. The irregular supply timing is creating additional problems for working residents, who may be away from home when water is released and are unable to store it. The disruption is affecting both drinking water availability and routine domestic use.
The report said that some residents are being forced to depend on purchased water and tankers, raising concerns about how long households can bear the additional expense. The lack of a fixed water-supply schedule has made it difficult for residents to plan storage and daily activities.
The road project has also been linked in the report to wider safety concerns. Lokmat stated that 21 people have lost their lives in connection with the road’s prolonged and poorly managed condition. The report did not provide further details on the circumstances or dates of those deaths.
The episode highlights the operational risks that arise when road construction and underground utility management are not coordinated. Repeated pipeline damage can interrupt essential services even when the construction activity is intended to improve road capacity. For residents, the immediate concern remains the restoration of predictable water supply while the road-widening work continues.
The report did not specify a confirmed restoration timeline, a revised construction schedule or an official response from the Pune civic administration. Residents continue to seek a permanent repair and a reliable water-supply timetable for the affected areas.
