Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has accelerated its monsoon road maintenance programme, repairing more than 1,100 potholes across the city within two weeks while continuing work on remaining damaged stretches. The intensified campaign reflects the growing challenge of maintaining urban road infrastructure during heavy rainfall and highlights the need for long-term investments in resilient transport networks rather than seasonal repairs alone.
According to civic data, the Pune pothole repairs drive addressed the majority of reported road defects between early and mid-July, leaving only a small number of locations pending due to ongoing rainfall and site accessibility. Repair work has been undertaken simultaneously across multiple ward offices, with inspection teams continuing daily surveys to identify newly formed potholes and respond to citizen complaints. Municipal engineers have adopted different repair techniques depending on road conditions and prevailing weather. Cold mix asphalt has been used where wet conditions prevented conventional resurfacing, while hot mix materials have been deployed on stretches suitable for permanent restoration. Gravel, granular sub-base materials and paver blocks have also been utilised where required to restore damaged surfaces and improve road stability.
