Pune: Light rainfall is expected to make a gradual return across Pune district after nearly a week of subdued monsoon conditions, according to the latest weather assessment. While the city’s ghat regions have already begun receiving intermittent showers, Pune is likely to experience scattered light rain over the coming days, easing concerns over an extended dry spell without posing a significant flood risk. The evolving weather pattern is expected to influence urban water management, transport operations and agricultural activity across the district.

Meteorological assessments indicate that rainfall activity is being supported by a combination of seasonal weather systems active across the Indian subcontinent. A low-pressure area over the north-west Bay of Bengal, together with the monsoon trough stretching across northern India, upper-air circulations over eastern regions and an approaching western disturbance, is creating favourable conditions for renewed precipitation over parts of Madhya Maharashtra. For Pune, however, the projected weather remains moderate rather than intense. Forecast models suggest Pune light rainfall will occur in isolated and scattered pockets over both the city and adjoining hill ranges during the next several days. For the agricultural sector, renewed showers are expected to support standing kharif crops across rural parts of the district, particularly where soil moisture has begun declining after the recent lull. At the same time, civic authorities are likely to continue monitoring drainage networks and low-lying areas, as isolated thunderstorms can still trigger short-duration waterlogging in densely built neighbourhoods.
