Pune Fast-Tracks Hinjewadi Road Acquisition, Works Set for December 2026

Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi has ordered officials to fast-track land acquisition for six proposed development plan roads in the Hinjewadi-Maan-Marunji area, with the Transfer of Development Rights process to be completed within a month and road works planned to begin in December 2026.

The directions were issued at a review meeting on Monday that examined traffic congestion, damaged roads, water supply, civic amenities and infrastructure development in the fast-growing industrial belt. Officials from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, public works department, police and municipal authorities attended the meeting.

Dudi instructed departments to accelerate tendering and administrative approvals for infrastructure projects scheduled to start in December. Funding has already been approved for stormwater drainage, junction improvements and other works, and officials have been asked to prepare proposals, estimates and tender documents and secure the required permissions.

The six proposed development plan roads will require land acquisition from private owners. According to the directions issued at the meeting, farmers have agreed to receive compensation through floor space index for two of the roads. The acquisition process for these two roads is to be taken up in the first phase, while separate meetings will be held with landowners affected by the remaining four roads.

The collector asked the chief engineer and land acquisition officers to complete the TDR process within a month and submit a time-bound schedule for acquisition and commencement of construction at the next review meeting. The administration has not provided the total length of the six roads or the estimated project cost in the information available.

Officials were also directed to repair potholes and road shoulders on major stretches within the stipulated period. The meeting called for the removal of encroachments, regulation of heavy vehicle movement and improved coordination between agencies responsible for roads in the Hinjewadi-Maan-Marunji belt.

Last-mile links between Metro stations and nearby industrial and residential areas were another focus of the review. Roads and transport facilities connecting stations in Baner, Balewadi and Hinjewadi Phases II and III were discussed as part of efforts to encourage public transport use in the employment corridor.

The meeting also addressed electricity and water infrastructure. Dudi asked officials to begin the process of transferring six acres to the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd for a proposed substation, citing rising electricity demand in the area.

The Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran was asked to prepare a detailed plan for using two thousand million cubic feet of water for Hinjewadi and surrounding areas. The plan is expected to cover existing supply, available sources and future requirements.

On waste management, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation was directed to sign agreements with surrounding gram panchayats for the collection and scientific disposal of village waste. The civic body was also asked to survey unauthorised dumping locations, issue legal notices to those responsible and initiate penal action. The next review meeting is expected to consider the acquisition schedule and the planned commencement of infrastructure works.
