A driver has been booked after allegedly attempting to enter Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol’s official convoy at Sancheti Chowk in Pune’s Shivajinagar area, with a medical examination reportedly indicating that the driver had consumed alcohol.
The incident occurred at about 8:30 pm on September 13, after Mohol’s convoy left Sancheti Chowk. Vehicles in the convoy used sirens to alert other road users as they moved through the junction.
A young motorist travelling through the area allegedly tried to enter the convoy despite warnings. The vehicle’s sudden movement created an obstruction, according to police. The driver was taken into custody.
Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Ishwar Bhikule filed the complaint at Shivajinagar police station. Bhikule is posted at Shivajinagar police headquarters and serves as part of Mohol’s security detail.
Police registered offences relating to disobeying an order, driving after consuming alcohol, and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The medical examination reportedly confirmed alcohol consumption. The report does not disclose the driver’s name or detail injuries or damage beyond temporary obstruction.
This case highlights challenges in managing official convoys alongside regular traffic, especially during busy periods like the Ganesh festival, requiring police deployment and traffic management. Further investigation is underway by Police Sub-Inspector Kathe.
