Pune Airport Cancels 13 Flights Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

Pune Airport experienced significant disruptions as 13 flights were cancelled due to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, following India’s launch of Operation Sindoor.

The cancellations affected major domestic routes, including destinations such as Amritsar, Cochin, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Rajkot, Jodhpur, Surat, Bhavnagar, and Jaipur. The airport authorities confirmed that 11 of the cancelled flights were operated by IndiGo, while the remaining two were by SpiceJet. The cancellations were attributed to the temporary suspension of flight operations at certain destination airports, a precautionary measure in response to the heightened security concerns in the region.

Passengers affected by these cancellations were informed in advance through various channels, including airline communications, airport announcements, and digital media platforms. Airlines offered options such as full refunds or alternate flight arrangements, adhering to the guidelines set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The broader context of these disruptions stems from the recent escalation in India-Pakistan tensions. On May 7, 2025, India initiated Operation Sindoor, targeting alleged terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistani-administered Kashmir. This military action was in response to an attack on April 22 that killed 26 tourists in Indian Kashmir.

In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, India temporarily closed 27 airports across its northern and western regions, leading to the cancellation of over 430 flights. Major carriers, including Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, suspended operations to and from affected areas. International airlines also rerouted flights to avoid the conflict zones, impacting global aviation networks. The situation remains fluid, with both countries’ airspaces experiencing closures and reroutings. Passengers are advised to stay updated on flight statuses and coordinate with airlines for the latest information. The aviation industry continues to monitor the developments closely, prioritizing passenger safety amid the ongoing geopolitical tensions.
