President Droupadi Murmu will visit Vijayawada on October 14 and 15 for programmes at Indrakeeladri and Punnami Ghat, prompting Andhra Pradesh officials to intensify security preparations and work to prevent traffic snarls around the venues.
Murmu is scheduled to arrive at Gannavaram airport at 6.25 pm on October 14 before travelling to Indrakeeladri. She is expected to offer prayers to Sri Kanaka Durgamma at 7.20 pm, according to the programme details reported by Deccan Chronicle.
On October 15, the President will attend the National Saras Mela at Punnami Ghat as its chief guest. She will also attend a programme hosted by Self-Help Group women and Lakhpati Didis, where discussions are scheduled to focus on women’s empowerment, self-employment and the economic development of rural women.
The Saras Aajeevika Melas are flagship events under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission. They provide Self-Help Groups and rural artisans with a national platform to display and sell products, linking livelihood programmes with public markets and institutional visibility.
The visit places two distinct types of public activity within Vijayawada’s urban movement network. The President’s route from Gannavaram airport to Indrakeeladri on October 14 and the programme at Punnami Ghat the following day will require coordinated management of official convoys, regular traffic and access to public venues. The state administration has not provided details of road closures or diversions in the supplied announcement.
G. Sai Prasad, principal secretary to the state government, directed officials to remain cautious, avoid traffic congestion and strengthen bandobust at the venues to be visited by the President. The direction places traffic management and security coordination among the immediate administrative priorities for the two-day programme.
The first leg of the visit is scheduled to end with Murmu’s departure for Delhi from Gannavaram airport on the afternoon of October 15. Officials are continuing preparations for the airport movement, the visit to Indrakeeladri and the National Saras Mela at Punnami Ghat.
