Pimpri-Chinchwad police have deployed 2,780 police officers and personnel, along with 602 home guards, for Ganesh visarjan processions across the city, while traffic restrictions have been imposed on procession routes and heavy vehicles.
The security arrangements cover major procession routes, crowded locations, junctions and immersion points. Senior police officers and personnel have been assigned to manage crowds, maintain law and order and regulate traffic during the processions.
According to the police plan, 1,398 Ganesh mandals within the Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate limits will take out immersion processions on Anant Chaturdashi. The city is also expected to see the immersion of 68,996 household Ganesh idols.
Additional units, including the State Reserve Police Force, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, riot-control teams and special striking teams, have been kept ready. Police said additional personnel would be deployed at locations where crowds increase, depending on the situation.
The arrangements also include surveillance through closed-circuit television cameras and other available technical systems. Police will monitor activity at major junctions, sensitive locations and crowded areas, with teams instructed to respond quickly if suspicious movement is detected.
Traffic movement will be affected in several parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad during the immersion processions. Entry restrictions have been imposed for vehicles on procession routes, and motorists have been asked to use alternative roads. Restrictions have also been placed on the entry of heavy vehicles.
The deployment reflects the operational challenge of managing simultaneous religious processions, household immersions, pedestrian crowds and road diversions across a rapidly urbanising city. For residents and commuters, the immediate impact will be concentrated on procession corridors, major intersections and access routes leading to immersion points.
Police have asked citizens to cooperate with the security and traffic arrangements and to inform the authorities about suspicious activity. The restrictions and deployment will remain linked to the movement of processions and crowd conditions during the immersion period.
