Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has announced that the state government will install a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Patna, describing it as the tallest statue of any eminent personality in Bihar. The announcement was made at a Rashtriya Ekta Diwas programme at Bapu Sabhagar, where the chief minister said the project would honour Patel’s role in uniting India.
Choudhary said the statue would be the largest among those of eminent personalities established in Bihar so far. The chief minister did not disclose the proposed height, exact location, construction cost, agency responsible for execution or completion timeline in the announcement reported by the Times of India.
The programme was organised by Sajhi Virasat Abhiyan to mark Patel’s birth anniversary. Choudhary paid floral tributes to Patel’s portrait and described him as a symbol of unity and one of India’s strongest home ministers. He referred to Patel’s role in merging more than 560 princely states into India and strengthening the country’s unity and integrity.
“Among the statues of great men established in Bihar so far, the largest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Ji will be installed,” Choudhary said at the event. He also said Patel had performed the historic task of binding the country “from Kashmir to Kanyakumari” into one thread.
The proposed installation places a commemorative structure within Patna’s wider civic landscape, but the announcement does not yet establish how the project will be planned, funded or integrated into the city’s public spaces. Details on land allocation, design, procurement, construction supervision and maintenance were not provided in the report.
Choudhary linked the announcement to the broader national objective of building a developed and economically strong India by 2047. He said continuous efforts were being made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership towards that goal, and credited Modi and former Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar with work connected to Patel’s vision and development in Bihar.
Health Minister Nishant Kumar also addressed the gathering and recalled Patel’s contribution to the making of India. During the event, Choudhary told Nishant Kumar that the two would work together like “brothers” to take Bihar forward. The remark comes amid discussions over Nishant Kumar’s role after he took charge of the health department, according to the report.
The next publicly disclosed steps for the statue project, including its site, dimensions, budget and implementation schedule, remain awaited. Until those details are announced, the chief minister’s statement establishes the government’s intention to build the statue but not the project’s execution framework.
