A kindergarten girl was seriously injured after a Class III student allegedly attacked her with stones and a flower pot at Sanskriti Model School in Sector 20, Panchkula, prompting a police inquiry into the incident and supervision arrangements on the school premises.
The girl was initially taken to Civil Hospital in Sector 6 and later referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh for specialised treatment. Her condition, initially described as critical, was reported to be stable on Friday.
According to information reported by the Times of India, the Class III student allegedly struck the girl with stones before picking up a flower pot and hitting her. The student allegedly continued throwing stones after the girl fell unconscious and dragged her some distance. The incident caused multiple injuries and brought the safety of young children inside the school campus under scrutiny.
A police team led by Sector 20 police station in-charge Yashdeep reached the school after receiving information about the incident. Investigating officer Pradeep Kumar is also involved in the inquiry. Police are examining the sequence of events and questioning school management to establish how the attack occurred.
The inquiry is also examining whether adequate supervision was in place during school hours, particularly in areas used by kindergarten students. The school’s responsibility to protect children on its premises has become a central issue in the investigation, although the circumstances that led to the alleged attack have not yet been established.
Police are questioning the parents of the Class III student as part of the inquiry into the incident and the events leading up to it. The investigation is expected to examine the movements of the children, the availability of staff supervision and the response after the girl was injured.
The incident highlights the operational responsibility schools carry beyond classroom teaching. Young children spend a substantial part of the day within school campuses, where access control, staff presence, monitoring of common areas and emergency response arrangements are essential to maintaining safety. In this case, police are yet to determine whether any lapse occurred.
The victim’s condition is currently reported to be stable, but the investigation remains ongoing. Police will continue questioning school representatives and the children’s families while examining the sequence of events and the adequacy of supervision at Sanskriti Model School.
