Palghar district will get three new additional tehsildar offices at Kasa, Boisar and Virar after the Maharashtra Revenue Department approved their establishment through a government decision issued on 22 September. The move is intended to bring revenue administration closer to residents in areas facing rising population, urbanisation and growing demand for government services.
The decision covers parts of Dahanu, Palghar and Vasai talukas. The government cited the expanding workload of existing offices, inadequate availability of officers and staff, the geographical spread of the talukas, population growth and urbanisation as reasons for creating the additional offices.
According to the decision reported by Loksatta, the new offices are intended to make administration more citizen-oriented, improve the speed of official work and strengthen the existing tehsil offices. Services delivered through the revenue administration would become more accessible to residents by being provided closer to their locations.
The proposed additional tehsildar office for Dahanu taluka will be based at Kasa. It will include the Kasa, Saivan and Charoti revenue circles. Dahanu currently has nine revenue circles, of which these three will come under the new Kasa office.
In Palghar taluka, the new additional tehsildar office will be located at Boisar. Four revenue circles—Boisar, Tarapur, Lalonde and Manor—will be placed under its jurisdiction. Palghar taluka has a total of 10 revenue circles.
The decision also changes the proposed headquarters for the Vasai taluka office. While Nilmore had initially been proposed as the location, approval has now been granted for the office to be established at Virar. The Virar, Agashi, Mandvi and Bolinj revenue circles will be included in its jurisdiction.
Before the government decision was issued, residents had been invited to submit written objections and suggestions regarding the headquarters and jurisdiction of the proposed offices. Residents from the Manor circle had objected to its inclusion in the Boisar additional tehsildar office area and had sought that it remain under the Palghar circle. The decision nevertheless retains Manor under the Boisar office, a move that has led to dissatisfaction among residents in the area, according to the report.
The creation of the three offices will divide administrative responsibilities across selected revenue circles rather than create new talukas. The decision therefore changes the local distribution of revenue administration while retaining the existing taluka structure described in the report.
The government decision does not specify in the supplied report when the three offices will begin full operations, the staffing pattern for each office or the premises from which they will function. The immediate administrative steps will involve finalising their headquarters, jurisdictional arrangements and operational requirements.
