Noida police have registered a case against Bharatiya Kisan Parishad president Sukhbir Khalifa and 39 other named people, along with around 200 unidentified persons, over alleged road blockades, damage to public property and clashes with police near the Parthala flyover. The case relates to a protest over a demand for a new electricity connection to vacant land beside the road.
The case was registered at Sector 113 police station on a complaint by Parthala police outpost in-charge Ankit Sharma. According to the complaint, Khalifa and his supporters had been staging a sit-in since September 6 near the Parthala flyover. Police have registered the case under 13 sections and begun an investigation. The allegations have not been tested in court.
The complaint says protesters used a loudspeaker for an address on September 21, allegedly causing continuing inconvenience to people travelling through the area. It also refers to an earlier incident on September 13, when Khalifa and approximately 150 to 200 people allegedly reached the main road without permission and began raising slogans.
According to the police account, the gathering obstructed vehicle movement and significantly affected traffic on the road. Police have also alleged that government flower pots placed on the footpath and other public property were damaged during the protest. The complaint says the situation created confusion in the surrounding area and caused fear among people nearby.
Police further alleged that some protesters used abusive language towards officers and engaged in pushing and physical altercations. The complaint states that the protesters continued raising slogans and blocked the main road. Police said they attempted to remove people from the sit-in and the protest site to restore normal traffic movement.
The dispute began over the demand for a new electricity connection to vacant land located beside the road near the Parthala flyover. The investigation has been assigned to Sanjay Malik. Police said further action would be taken after the investigation is completed.
