Nitish Kumar Launches Over 140 Infrastructure Projects Worth Rs 1,328 Crore in Bhagalpur
On his ‘Pragati Yatra’ in Bhagalpur, Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled an ambitious set of development projects aimed at boosting the region’s infrastructure, economy, and overall quality of life. The 146 projects, worth Rs 1,328.25 crore, span a wide range of sectors, including smart city initiatives, rural development, transportation, and healthcare, marking a major step forward for Bhagalpur’s growth.
Nitish Kumar, along with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, and other state officials, arrived in Bhagalpur by helicopter to a warm reception. The Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation for a variety of projects designed to cater to the region’s infrastructure needs. Notably, 18 smart city projects were launched under the urban development and housing department, which will help modernise the city, making it more connected and accessible for both residents and businesses.
Among the other key projects, the Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) in Sabour saw the launch of a Rs 72 crore agriculture biotechnology building and two advanced laboratories worth Rs 29 crore. These developments are expected to strengthen the agricultural research and innovation landscape in the region, creating new opportunities for the local farming community and students alike. At Bahadurpur High School in Barari panchayat, Nitish Kumar inaugurated sports facilities, including basketball, badminton, and volleyball courts, along with a running track. This move highlights the state’s increasing focus on nurturing young talent and improving public amenities. The CM also proposed further infrastructure development, such as an interstate bus stand on Jicho-Goradih road and a railway overbridge at Ishakchak.
One of the most significant announcements was the commitment to improve Bhagalpur’s connectivity. A new road-over bridge at Bounsi on the railway line is planned to ease traffic congestion and improve safety. Additionally, the CM promised the development of a sports complex in Naugachia and the establishment of a cancer treatment facility at JLNMCH, which is expected to serve as a crucial resource for the people of Bhagalpur and surrounding regions. With Bhagalpur’s pressing need for air connectivity, Kumar also addressed the lack of a functional airport in the region, saying the state government would push the central government to introduce small-capacity flights under the UDAN scheme (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik). This move would dramatically improve travel options for both business and leisure travellers, helping Bhagalpur become a more connected and accessible region.
The infrastructure upgrades announced during the Pragati Yatra are not just about modernising Bhagalpur’s physical infrastructure but also about fostering economic growth, employment, and regional development. By focusing on rural development, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities, Nitish Kumar’s government aims to create a more equitable and sustainable future for the people of Bhagalpur. The promise of a greenfield airport, industrial parks, and enhanced road infrastructure indicates a strong push towards making Bhagalpur an attractive hub for both local and foreign investments. Rural areas in particular stand to benefit from these projects, as they are likely to see improved roads, better access to resources, and greater opportunities for local businesses.
The people of Bhagalpur have responded positively to the announcements, with many expressing optimism about the future. The increased focus on infrastructure, healthcare, and education is expected to improve their lives in tangible ways, offering better employment opportunities and access to quality services. Local businesses, too, are eager to see how improved infrastructure will help them thrive, as smoother transportation routes and better connectivity open new markets and trade opportunities. Overall, Nitish Kumar’s Pragati Yatra in Bhagalpur has laid the foundation for a more prosperous and well-connected region, where residents can look forward to a future of improved living standards, economic growth, and enhanced opportunities. The combination of smart city projects, transport infrastructure, and educational advancements points to a comprehensive approach to regional development, making Bhagalpur a model for other cities in Bihar and beyond.
