The National Highways Authority of India has opened the 9-km DND Flyway–Jaitpur section of NH-148NA on a trial basis, connecting Delhi directly with the already operational expressway sections towards Faridabad and the KMP interchange. Nearly 8.5 km of the newly opened stretch is elevated, while toll collection has not begun during the trial period.
A critical missing link between Delhi and the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway has opened to vehicles, with NHAI beginning trial operations on the 9-km access-controlled highway between DND Flyway at Maharani Bagh and Jaitpur Pushta Road.
The section forms Package I of the 59-km DND–Faridabad–Sohna corridor on NH-148NA, developed as a spur connecting Delhi with the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. Packages II and III beyond Jaitpur had already been completed and opened to traffic. With the DND–Jaitpur section now available, motorists from Delhi can continue through the operational corridor towards Faridabad and the KMP interchange without leaving the expressway system.
Nearly 8.5 km of the 9-km section is elevated, according to the Times of India. NHAI is operating the road on a trial basis before formal commissioning, allowing officials to observe traffic operations and address any deficiencies. No toll is being collected during the trial period.
The corridor creates a new route for traffic originating from east and south Delhi as well as Noida and Ghaziabad towards Faridabad, Sohna, Rajasthan and operational sections of the wider Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. Existing traffic on routes including Mathura Road, Ashram and Kalindi Kunj could consequently redistribute towards the new access-controlled link.
The project has, however, already generated a second infrastructure concern. In July, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said NHAI had begun preparing a Detailed Project Report to decongest the Sarai Kale Khan Loop, where traffic from Ashram, Noida and Sarai Kale Khan converges before accessing the DND–Sohna corridor. The ministry explicitly warned that commissioning of the new highway was expected to increase traffic volumes at the junction.
The DND–Jaitpur package had previously missed its planned schedule. A Lok Sabha reply in December 2025 recorded physical progress at 94.23% and attributed delays partly to approval of structural drawings for the Agra Canal crossing.
The latest opening therefore marks trial operation of the Delhi access link, not the completion of the entire Delhi–Mumbai Expressway to Mumbai.
