NH-167 Truck Fire Disrupts Traffic Near Kodangal; Driver Escapes

An NH-167 truck fire near Janampally in Telangana’s Vikarabad district disrupted traffic temporarily on Sunday morning after a vehicle carrying plastic granules from Gujarat to Chennai was engulfed in flames. The driver escaped the blaze and no fatalities were reported.

The truck caught fire at about 7.40 am near Janampally, in the Kodangal area, according to Kodangal fire station officials. The vehicle was transporting plastic raw material when its engine allegedly overheated, triggering an electrical short circuit in the cabin.

The driver noticed the fire in time and jumped out of the truck. A fire official said he suffered minor injuries, while the truck and its cargo were destroyed. Preliminary investigations indicated engine overheating and an electrical short circuit as the likely cause. Further inquiry is underway.

Officials estimated the property loss at around Rs 24 lakh. Property worth approximately Rs 14 lakh was saved during the response, according to the fire department. Two fire tenders and local authorities reached the location after receiving information about the blaze.

The plastic cargo intensified the fire after flames spread from the cabin to the load within seconds. Thick smoke from the burning vehicle temporarily affected traffic movement on the highway while officials assessed the damage and cleared the scene.

The incident highlights the operational risks posed by vehicle fires on highways carrying industrial and plastic materials, although authorities have not announced any wider restrictions or additional safety measures. The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
