The five-year-old female Durga elephant has arrived at the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai from Assam, becoming the latest addition to the temple’s elephant management system ahead of Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations, according to a report by Dinamalar.
Durga travelled approximately 3,000 kilometres from Manas National Park in Assam before reaching Madurai. Temple staff welcomed the elephant by showering flowers after its arrival, while devotees expressed happiness at the addition of a new temple elephant.
The transfer was carried out after the Tamil Nadu Forest Department issued the required no-objection certificate and the relevant documents were checked, the report said.
