The Hura lift irrigation project in Karnataka’s Nanjangud taluk is expected to be commissioned soon, with water scheduled to be supplied to 23 lakes in the Hura and Yadiyala areas before the Dasara festival, according to MLA Darshan Dhruvanarayana.
The announcement was made during a Prajaseva Andolana programme organised by the taluk administration at the tourist lodge in Hullahalli village. The MLA said the project had already undergone a trial run and that arrangements were being made to fill all the identified lakes within the promised timeline.
The Hura lift irrigation project was implemented during the tenure of former MLA Kalale Keshavamurthy. However, work remained stalled from 2018 to 2023 before being restarted in 2023. The latest announcement indicates that the project has now reached the testing stage, although the source report does not provide details of the total project cost, designed pumping capacity or the agencies responsible for operating and maintaining the system.

Chain-link mesh has been installed as part of a programme described by the MLA as the first of its kind in Karnataka, with additional work planned in remaining areas around Devegowdanapura. The stated objective is to reduce recurring encounters between people and wildlife.
The MLA also said concrete roads and drains had been constructed in several villages through Scheduled Caste and Tribal Sub-Plan funding. Concrete roads were also being built in streets inhabited by other communities using special funding from the chief minister, he said. Disability pension certificates were distributed during the programme.
