Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Purple Line services were briefly disrupted on Monday night after a person entered the tracks between Deepanjali Nagar and Mysuru Road stations, narrowly avoiding a collision with a train, according to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials quoted by Prajavani.
The person reportedly moved away from the station and entered the track at around 8.15 pm. Metro staff noticed the intrusion before a train reached the location, preventing a possible collision. The incident led to a temporary halt in train movements between Vijayanagar and Challaghatta.
Services resumed after 8.30 pm, BMRCL officials said. The disruption affected passengers travelling on the western section of the Purple Line, although the report did not specify the number of trains or commuters delayed.
BMRCL expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers. The incident also brought the operational risk created by unauthorised track access into immediate focus, as even a short interruption can require trains to be held while staff secure the affected section.
The identity of the person who entered the track and the reason for doing so were not known at the time of the report. No further details about injuries or police action were provided.
The Purple Line is a key east-west corridor in Bengaluru’s metro network, connecting the city’s eastern areas with the western terminal at Challaghatta. The affected section includes Vijayanagar, Deepanjali Nagar and Mysuru Road stations. BMRCL’s immediate operational response was to stop services on the relevant stretch until the track was cleared and normal movement could resume.
