Mysuru Dasara Jamboo Savari Set for Grand Procession Today

Mysuru’s Dasara Jamboo Savari is set to begin after preparations were completed for the major procession, with restricted access at the palace grounds, 48,000 seats arranged for spectators and tableaux from 15 districts included in this year’s programme.

The procession will follow the traditional route through the cultural city, with cultural troupes and tableaux showcasing Karnataka’s heritage and achievements. The event is expected to draw lakhs of people, according to the report by Prajavani.

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar is scheduled to perform the Nandidhwaja puja at the Balarama Gate of Mysuru Palace between 1.36 pm and 1.56 pm. The ceremony will mark the beginning of the Jamboo Savari.

Entry to the palace grounds for the programme is limited to dignitaries, special guests, and people holding gold cards, tickets or authorised passes. The seating arrangement has a capacity of 48,000, according to the information reported from the event preparations.

This year’s procession will include tableaux from 15 districts. Air Force and Navy tableaux, along with their musical bands, are among the special attractions listed for the event. Kannada film actors, producers and directors are also scheduled to participate in the procession while seated in a decorated ambari vehicle.

Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth said 150 film-industry artists would take part and that separate seating had been arranged for them. The participation adds a film-industry component to an event otherwise centred on the ceremonial, cultural and administrative traditions of Dasara.

Eleven foreign ambassadors and representatives visiting Mysuru for the Jamboo Savari were welcomed by Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy and Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya. The report also said that 12 foreign ambassadors were expected to attend the event, along with Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Other expected attendees include Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, royal family member and Member of Parliament Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, district in-charge minister Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah, Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj S. Tangadagi and MLA T.S. Srivatsa.

A Vajramushti Kalaga scheduled to take place before the Jamboo Savari at the palace grounds was cancelled on Wednesday because of a lack of coordination, according to the report. The cancellation came as the palace prepared to host the main procession and the large group of invited guests and ticketed spectators.

The district administration’s arrangements place the palace grounds and the procession route at the centre of the day’s public activity, while access controls determine who can enter the main viewing area. The official programme will proceed with the Nandidhwaja puja before the Jamboo Savari begins.
