Mumbai weather update: The city is expected to remain dry and humid over the next 24 hours, with temperatures forecast to approach 37 degrees Celsius and the overall Air Quality Index reported at 116 on Wednesday, October 21. The India Meteorological Department has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.
Mumbai, Thane and Palghar are expected to experience predominantly dry conditions, although residents may see some cloud cover during the day. The forecast maximum temperature for Mumbai and its suburbs is around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is likely to remain in the mid-20s.
The city recorded high temperatures on Wednesday. The Colaba observatory registered a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 35 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz recorded a minimum of 24.8 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 36.3 degrees Celsius. Neither observatory recorded rainfall, with precipitation reported at 0.0 mm.
The combination of heat and humidity is expected to make outdoor conditions uncomfortable, particularly during the afternoon. Residents have been advised to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing and limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
Air quality remained a concern amid the hazy skies. Mumbai’s overall AQI was reported at 116 on Wednesday morning, placing it in the moderate category under the national AQI classification. The figures were attributed to the Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app.
Pollution levels varied considerably across the city’s monitoring locations. Colaba recorded the highest AQI at 161, followed by Bandra-Kurla Complex at 149 and Deonar at 146. Worli recorded an AQI of 139, while Andheri reported 136 and Borivali 107.
The wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region recorded lower readings in some locations. Thane’s AQI was reported at 92, Navi Mumbai at 105 and Kalyan at 74. The variation shows that conditions differed across monitoring stations even as haze was observed over the city.
The IMD’s thunderstorm warning applies to Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, where lightning, gusty winds and light to moderate rainfall are possible. Mumbai, Thane and Palghar are expected to continue with mainly dry weather during the forecast period. Residents in the warned districts have been advised to remain alert to changing conditions.
