Mysuru Civic Body Brings Birth, Death Certificates to Doorsteps

Mysuru City Corporation has signed an agreement with the Mysuru postal division to deliver birth and death certificates to applicants at their specified addresses, allowing residents to avoid a second visit to civic offices to collect the documents.

The agreement was signed by corporation commissioner M.K. Savita and Mysuru postal division senior superintendent G. Harish at an event held at the Chamajendra Hall of the civic body. The service will be available through the corporation’s main office and all nine zonal offices.

Applicants who want delivery by post must provide their complete delivery address and submit their consent while applying for a birth or death certificate. Once prepared, the certificate will be sent through the postal department’s network to the specified address anywhere in the country, according to information shared at the event.

The delivery will operate under a cash-on-delivery arrangement. Applicants will have to pay a postal delivery charge of ₹100 to postal department staff when receiving the certificate. The corporation said the arrangement would save applicants the time, travel expense and effort involved in returning to a civic office after submitting their application.

The service addresses a routine but often repeated interaction between residents and municipal offices. Birth and death certificates are official records that may be required for identity, inheritance, insurance, education, employment and other administrative processes. Under the new arrangement, the applicant’s physical presence at a corporation office for collection will not be required after the document is ready.

The civic body also briefed officials concerned with government hospitals about the agreement and its operating procedure. Government hospitals do not come under the administrative control of the Mysuru City Corporation, making coordination with the relevant authorities necessary for information about the new delivery process to reach applicants and institutions connected with birth and death registration.

Officials and representatives present at the programme included the postal department’s ASAP Manikumar, market officer Sureshkumar, private hospitals’ association president Dr Chandrashekar, corporation executive engineer Mrityunjaya K.S., assistant statistical officer Shankar, and representatives of government and private hospitals. The corporation and the postal division are to use the agreement to deliver certificates after applications are processed and the documents are ready for dispatch.
