Direct air connectivity between Mumbai and Canada is set to expand this winter with the launch of a new non-stop service to Toronto, marking a significant development for international aviation, business travel and diaspora connectivity. The new route, alongside additional capacity on existing India–Canada services, is expected to strengthen Mumbai’s role as a global aviation gateway while supporting trade, tourism and economic exchanges. The seasonal Mumbai Toronto Flights service is scheduled to begin during the 2026–27 winter timetable, creating the first direct connection between India’s financial capital and Canada’s largest city. The route will operate three times a week and will complement increased services from Delhi, taking the total number of weekly flights between India and Canada to 20.
Aviation analysts believe the expansion reflects sustained demand for direct long-haul travel from western India, where Mumbai serves as a major hub for finance, technology, education and international commerce. A direct service eliminates transit stops through other international gateways, reducing travel time and improving convenience for business travellers, students and families with cross-border connections. The airline also plans to deploy upgraded wide-body aircraft on the new service, offering improved passenger amenities while increasing premium seating capacity. Simultaneously, the Delhi–Toronto route will receive additional frequencies and progressively transition to newer aircraft, allowing for greater consistency across the airline’s Canada operations during the winter season.
Industry experts note that the expansion of Mumbai Toronto Flights extends beyond passenger convenience. Improved international connectivity often strengthens trade relationships, encourages tourism and supports investment by providing faster access between financial centres. The expanded schedule is expected to improve onward domestic connections through Mumbai and Delhi, allowing international passengers to access a broader network of Indian destinations without relying on multiple overseas transit points. Urban economists also point out that growing long-haul connectivity contributes to wider metropolitan development by reinforcing aviation-linked sectors such as hospitality, logistics, airport infrastructure and business services. However, they caution that future aviation growth should remain aligned with sustainable airport planning, operational efficiency and lower-emission technologies to balance economic expansion with environmental responsibility.
