Mumbai-Pune Expressway Faces Temporary Closure

Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced a scheduled technical inspection and repair of the gantry on a segment of the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, specifically the Pune channel.

The maintenance work is slated for May 18 and 19, 2024, during which motorists are advised to take alternate routes to avoid disruptions. On May 18, from 10:30 am to 12 pm, the Pune-bound traffic on the expressway will be completely halted. During this period, vehicles will be redirected via Shandong and Khopoli on National Highway No. 48 towards Pune. This diversion is critical to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and minimise inconvenience to commuters.

Similarly, on May 19, from 10:30 am to 12 pm, traffic will once again be stopped. Vehicles will be rerouted from Kusgaon Patkar station to National Highway No. 48, continuing towards Pune via Dehu Road. These measures are necessary to facilitate the gantry repair work, which is essential for maintaining the structural integrity and safety of the expressway.

The Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, a vital link between Mumbai and Pune, is one of the busiest routes in Maharashtra. The planned repairs are part of MSRDC’s ongoing efforts to ensure the expressway remains in optimal condition, providing safe and efficient travel for all users. Regular maintenance and timely repairs are crucial for preventing long-term damage and ensuring the reliability of this critical infrastructure. Motorists travelling between Mumbai and Pune during these dates are encouraged to plan their journeys, accordingly, allowing extra time for the diversions. The MSRDC has assured that all necessary measures will be taken to minimise inconvenience and ensure a seamless traffic flow during the repair work. Traffic management personnel will be deployed to guide commuters and manage the diversions efficiently.

The MSRDC’s proactive approach in maintaining the expressway underscores the importance of regular infrastructure maintenance in supporting the state’s economic activities. By ensuring the structural soundness of the gantries, the MSRDC aims to enhance the safety and efficiency of the expressway, thereby facilitating smoother and safer travel for all motorists.
