Mumbai Metro operators have extended services during Ganeshotsav 2026, while Mayor Ritu Tawde reviewed crowd-control measures, passenger facilities and emergency arrangements at Ghatkopar metro station ahead of the city’s Ganesh visarjan movement, according to an official statement.
Tawde inspected the station on Tuesday as Mumbai prepared for increased movement of regular commuters, devotees and tourists during the festival. She reviewed cleanliness, health facilities and ambulance services around the station in coordination with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), and interacted with passengers about their travel experience and concerns.
The mayor directed the administration to take immediate measures to improve commuter convenience after hearing suggestions from passengers. The review also covered the daily facilities provided by the Metro administration and the civic services available near the station.
Crowd management during peak hours was discussed in meetings with senior Mumbai Metro officials. The discussions included daily passenger numbers, current ticket fares, Metro operations, the possibility of adding more coaches in the future and plans for increasing revenue through different sources.
Tawde also assured the Mumbai Metro administration that the BMC would provide all possible support to improve coordination between the two administrations. Officials present included Metro business Head Ajay Kumar, Deputy General Manager Mayank Rawat and Senior Manager Alpesh Nagda. BMC representatives included N Ward Assistant Commissioner Jaideep More and Medical Officer Dr Ravindra Hange.
The service extensions cover multiple corridors and are intended to support late-night travel for people visiting pandals and attending Ganesh festival celebrations. Mumbai Metro One Private Limited, which operates the Blue Line or Metro 1 between Versova, Andheri and Ghatkopar, will run trains beyond midnight during the festive period.
The last Metro 1 train from Versova towards Ghatkopar will depart at 12.15 am, while the final train from Ghatkopar towards Versova will leave at 12.40 am and reach Versova at 1.03 am.
Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited has extended services on Metro Lines 2A, 2B, 7 and 9 until 12.30 am during the 12-day festive period. The final trains will depart at 12.30 am instead of the regular 11 pm from Andheri West and Dahisar East on Line 2A, Gundavali on Line 7, Kashigaon on Line 9, and Maharashtra Nagar-Mandale and Chembur on Line 2B.
Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited has separately extended services on Metro Line 3, or the Aqua Line, from September 14 to 25. The last trains from Cuffe Parade and Aarey JVLR, which normally depart at 10.30 pm, will operate until midnight during the period.
The extended schedules are scheduled to remain in place through September 25, while the Ghatkopar review has focused on crowd management, station facilities and coordination between civic and Metro authorities during the festival.
