The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has ordered enforcement action against a building under construction near Domlur for allegedly failing to maintain mandatory setbacks, while directing officials to address blocked footpaths, damaged roads and pending infrastructure works in the area.
GBA Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao issued the directions during an inspection of locations under the Bengaluru Central City Corporation on September 22. He instructed officials to serve a notice on the building, which was being constructed after an older structure was demolished, and to initiate removal action after the notice was issued.
The inspection found that the building had not left the required setback on any of its four sides, according to the report. At the same location, Mr. Rao also identified a commercial building constructed without a setback and directed officials to disconnect its electricity supply immediately.
The action places building regulation alongside wider concerns about how construction affects public movement and local infrastructure. Mr. Rao directed officials to examine whether the wide footpath along Domlur Main Road could be developed as a vending zone or parking facility. He also ordered the removal of walls obstructing pedestrians and asked officials to create a clear pedestrian pathway.
Officials were directed to take up the development of Domlur Junction and carry out road repairs properly. Saibaba Temple Road is to be asphalted. The Commissioner also noted that roads in the Domlur area had not been restored after the completion of sanitary-line works by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board. He instructed officials to take up the repair and restoration work immediately.
The inspection extended to the Kodihalli Primary Health Centre, where Mr. Rao directed officials to earmark a separate area for biomedical waste and install CCTV cameras for the facility’s security. Health officials were also asked to ensure that the centre had the necessary medicines.
The GBA also reviewed progress on the wind tunnel underpass. The project was described as around 80% complete, with box-pushing work remaining. Mr. Rao instructed officials to expedite the pending work and complete the underpass by the end of November.
The directions combine regulatory enforcement with instructions on pedestrian access, road restoration, public health infrastructure and a major underpass project. The next steps include issuing the building notice, initiating action against the setback violations, restoring roads after utility works and completing the remaining underpass work by the stated November deadline.
