Mumbai LTT Block Advances Railway Infrastructure Works
Central Railway will undertake an 11-day operational block at Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) beginning August 4 to carry out critical yard modification and infrastructure enhancement works, resulting in temporary changes to selected long-distance train operations. The Mumbai LTT Block is intended to improve operational efficiency, safety and future capacity at one of the city’s key intercity railway terminals, although passengers will face short-term service adjustments. The planned engineering programme will continue until August 14, during which railway authorities will execute construction and track-related works within the terminal yard. To facilitate the project, a limited number of long-distance trains will operate with revised terminal arrangements, including services that will temporarily originate from or terminate at Thane instead of Lokmanya Tilak Terminus.
Railway planners view the Mumbai LTT Block as part of a broader strategy to modernise terminal infrastructure in response to increasing passenger demand across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. As one of the city’s major hubs for trains serving western, central and southern India, LTT plays a critical role in handling growing intercity traffic while supporting freight and operational flexibility within the suburban railway network.
