Central Railway will conduct an intensive ticket-checking drive from October 1 to October 31, 2026, covering stations and trains and focusing on ticket validity, authenticity and passenger eligibility. Travellers using concession fares, specified reservation quotas and different types of railway passes will receive particular scrutiny during the month-long campaign.
According to the report by Navbharat Times – Mumbai, ticket-checking staff will verify whether passengers travelling under a concession or a designated reservation quota carry valid identity proof establishing their eligibility. The checks will be conducted during journeys as well as at railway stations.
Passengers travelling on a single ticket booked for more than one person have been specifically advised to carry the prescribed identification. If the required identity proof is not produced, all passengers travelling on that ticket may be treated under applicable rules as travelling without a valid ticket. Railway authorities may then initiate action and impose the prescribed penalty.
The identity requirement will also apply to passengers using concessions or reserved quotas. The announcement places the responsibility on travellers to carry documents that establish their eligibility for the fare or reservation category used for the journey. This is particularly relevant for bookings where the benefit is linked to the passenger’s status rather than being available to all travellers.
Railway employees and their family members travelling through E-Pass or PTO facilities have also been asked to follow specific requirements. They must carry the prescribed original identity document and ensure before starting their journey that the E-Pass or PTO has been properly converted or exchanged into an authority-to-travel document. The E-Pass facility enables eligible railway employees and family members to travel without paying the standard fare, while a PTO allows eligible employees to purchase tickets at a concessionary fare.
Central Railway will pay special attention to the authenticity of tickets, with unreserved tickets among those identified for verification. Where necessary, ticket-checking staff may use the TTE app to verify a ticket’s validity and authenticity. The use of digital verification is intended to support checks where the physical or presented ticket requires further confirmation.
The stated purpose of the drive is to prevent misuse of reservation facilities, curb fraudulent or improper use of concessions and passes, and reduce losses to railway revenue. For passengers, the campaign means that carrying the required identity proof and ensuring that concessionary or pass-based travel documents have been correctly issued will be essential during the October checks.
The campaign is scheduled to run across Central Railway stations and trains from October 1 through October 31. The report does not specify the number of checking staff involved, the expected number of inspections or a separate enforcement target for Mumbai’s suburban services.
