Mumbai local train services will face diversions and cancellations on Sunday as Central Railway and Western Railway carry out engineering, track, signalling and overhead equipment maintenance work across key suburban sections. The blocks will affect the Central, Western, Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines at different times, while special services will operate on selected routes.
On Central Railway’s main line, the block will be imposed on the up and down slow lines between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Vidya Vihar. Down slow local trains departing from CSMT between 10.48 am and 3.45 pm will be diverted to the down fast line between CSMT and Vidya Vihar. These trains will stop at Byculla, Parel, Dadar, Matunga, Sion and Kurla before returning to the down slow line at Vidya Vihar.
Up slow local trains departing from Ghatkopar between 10.19 am and 3.52 pm will similarly be diverted to the up fast line between Vidya Vihar and CSMT. They will halt at Kurla, Sion, Matunga, Dadar, Parel and Byculla. The diversions are intended to allow maintenance work to proceed on the affected slow-line section.
Western Railway will conduct a jumbo block between Borivali and Ram Mandir from 10 am to 2 pm on the up fast and fifth lines for maintenance of railway tracks, signalling systems and overhead equipment. During the block, all up fast trains between Borivali and Andheri will be operated on the up slow or sixth line. Trains using the fifth line between Andheri and Borivali will run on the down fast line.
Some up and down suburban services will remain cancelled during the Western Railway block. In addition, some Andheri–Borivali suburban services will be operated on the Harbour line up to Goregaon. Commuters travelling between the western suburbs and the city will therefore need to account for changes in stopping patterns and operating lines.
On the Harbour line, the up and down sections between Panvel and Vashi, excluding the Port line, will be affected from 11.05 am to 4.05 pm. Up Harbour line services towards CSMT departing from Panvel between 10.33 am and 3.49 pm will be cancelled. Down services towards Belapur and Panvel departing from CSMT between 9.45 am and 3.12 pm will also be cancelled.
The Trans-Harbour line will also see cancellations. Up services towards Thane departing from Panvel between 11.02 am and 3.53 pm will remain cancelled, while down services towards Panvel departing from Thane between 10.01 am and 3.20 pm will not operate during the affected period.
During the Harbour line block, special local trains will run between CSMT and Vashi. Trans-Harbour services between Thane and Vashi or Nerul will remain available, while Port line services will operate normally during the block. Railway authorities have scheduled the maintenance windows to carry out infrastructure work while managing services on alternative routes.
