Mira Road police rescued a 28-year-old delivery worker, his wife and their two young daughters from a late-night crisis on Fountain Bridge after receiving an alert that the family was in danger, according to a report by the Times of India. The intervention took place at about 2am on Monday near Mira Road.
The Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar police control room alerted Kashigaon police station at around 1.58am after receiving information about the family’s situation. Versova beat marshal No. 4, police havaldar Kokre and police constable Mohite were sent to the bridge and its surrounding area.
The officers located the family at around 2.18am and brought them to safety. The children were aged one and two. Police later learnt that the man worked as a delivery boy and lived with his family in Shanti Park, Mira Road East.
According to the report, the man had borrowed around Rs 3.5 lakh from his sister a few months earlier after pledging gold. His sister had been asking him to redeem the gold, sell it and return the remaining amount. Police said the resulting financial pressure and family dispute had left him distressed.
The family was counselled by the police, who advised them to resolve the dispute rather than take any drastic step. The man’s brother and sister were also counselled and asked to address the family issue at the earliest.
“The moment we received the information, the beat marshals were alerted and they immediately rushed to the spot. Their timely intervention helped avert a major tragedy. The family was subsequently counselled,” PSI Harish Patil was quoted as saying.
The incident highlights the role of control-room alerts and beat-level police response in handling urgent safety situations in fast-growing suburban areas. Police said counselling and family intervention followed the rescue, with relatives asked to resolve the dispute promptly.
