MHADA Starts Tenement Allotment, Apply by January 31

In a significant development aimed at improving the housing scenario for vulnerable sections of Mumbai’s population, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has commenced the process of tenement allotment. This initiative is targeted at original tenants and residents, including legal heirs, who were displaced due to unsafe building conditions or redevelopment projects under the jurisdiction of MHADA.

The application window for eligible individuals has been officially opened, with the deadline set for 31 January. Residents who meet the eligibility criteria and are included in the master list can apply online through the dedicated portal. This move comes after a long-standing need for permanent tenements, especially for those currently residing in transit camps due to redevelopment delays. Eligible applicants include those whose original buildings could not be redeveloped due to space constraints, narrow plots, road-widening projects, or government reservations. As part of the process, MHADA has streamlined the application procedure, allowing residents to apply digitally for the first time.

To apply, applicants must visit the official MHADA website, where they can access the “Citizen Corner” section or directly go to the dedicated portal for registration. Applicants will need to create a secure login with an email ID and password. Once registered, they can proceed to complete the application form, making sure to follow the instructions carefully to avoid any errors. Key documents required for submission include a recent passport-sized photograph, Aadhaar card, proof of residence, and transit camp possession receipt. Additionally, those with previous pending applications are advised to reapply through the online portal to ensure their case is updated.

Applicants are required to submit self-attested copies of their application and documents within 30 days to the designated MHADA office in Bandra. The eligibility and allotment will be based on the MHADA Act of 1976 and relevant policies, which ensure fair allocation. This initiative is expected to bring relief to several residents who have been waiting for permanent housing solutions for years, as MHADA continues to work towards addressing the growing housing needs of Mumbai’s population.
