The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trapped Metpally Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Daroju Padma while she was allegedly accepting a Rs.63,000 bribe linked to 21 Anganwadi centres in Metpally urban mandal, according to ACB police.
The trap was carried out outside the CDPO’s office after a complainant approached ACB officials, unable to pay the amount allegedly demanded by the officer. The ACB said Padma had sought payments from Anganwadi centres in exchange for showing officials favour and not making adverse remarks during inspections.
According to the details reported by Deccan Chronicle, the alleged demand was Rs.1,000 per month from each Anganwadi centre. With 21 centres in the Metpally urban mandal, the amount sought for three months totalled Rs.63,000.
The case highlights the administrative pressure that can arise when frontline public-service centres depend on routine inspections and supervisory approvals. Anganwadi centres form part of the government’s child-development delivery system, making the conduct of officials responsible for monitoring them relevant to the functioning of local public services.
The complainant contacted the ACB after being unable to pay the alleged demand. ACB personnel then laid a trap and caught the CDPO while she was allegedly accepting the money outside her office. The reported case concerns an allegation at this stage, and the legal process will determine the charges and evidence against the officer.
Following the trap, Padma was produced before the Special Judge for Special Police Establishment and ACB cases in Karimnagar. The court proceedings are the next formal stage reported in the case after the ACB action.
