MCD Jobs Give 46 Bereaved Families Fresh Financial Support

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has given appointment letters to 46 dependents of deceased civic employees, providing them employment as Multi-Tasking Staff in its Public Health Department under the compassionate appointment scheme.

The letters were distributed by Mayor Pravesh Wahi at a ceremony held at the Satya Narayan Bansal Auditorium at the Corporation headquarters. The appointments are intended to provide employment support to families whose earning members died while serving in the civic body.

Addressing the gathering, Wahi said the MCD remained committed to protecting the interests and welfare of its employees and supporting their families during difficult circumstances. He described civic workers as an essential link in the delivery of municipal services, particularly sanitation, which depends on the continued efforts of the Corporation’s workforce.

Compassionate appointments are designed to offer a measure of financial stability to dependents after the death of an employee in service. In this case, the beneficiaries have been appointed as Multi-Tasking Staff in the Public Health Department, the department responsible for functions closely linked to sanitation and public health operations.

The Mayor also referred to other employment-related measures undertaken by the civic body. These included the regularisation of 1,467 sanitation workers and the recent disbursement of salaries to around 4,000 MTS employees in the Public Health Department under the principle of “equal pay for equal work”. The salary payments were facilitated by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, according to the report.

The measures place employee welfare alongside the MCD’s responsibility to maintain essential services across the capital. Sanitation workers and other Public Health Department staff form part of the workforce that supports routine municipal operations, making employment conditions within the Corporation relevant to the reliability of civic service delivery.

Wahi said the BJP-led administration in the MCD was prioritising employee welfare and protecting the rights of its workforce. He also referred to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Delhi Chief Minister while describing the Corporation’s efforts to improve the conditions of its employees.

Deputy Mayor Monika Pant, Leader of the House Jai Bhagwan Yadav, DDA member Rajiv Babbar, Municipal Health Officer Ashok Rawat and senior civic officials attended the event. The latest appointments come as the MCD continues to address employment-related concerns among its workforce, with the Corporation’s stated focus extending from compassionate appointments to regularisation and salary-related measures.
