The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has expanded demolition and enforcement action against unsafe buildings, unauthorised construction and building-norm violations across all 12 zones of the capital after a paying guest accommodation collapse in Satya Niketan killed seven people and injured at least five.

MCD teams carried out action on Thursday in areas including Laxmi Nagar, Jagatpuri and Pandav Nagar, where structures were found to be in violation of building regulations, according to the report. Enforcement activity was also conducted over the previous two to three days in Vishwas Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Jamia Nagar, Shaheen Bagh, Tilak Nagar, Karam Pura, Karol Bagh, Ramesh Nagar, Mansarovar Garden, Chandni Chowk and Nehru Vihar.
The civic body’s action covers dangerous buildings, unauthorised construction and illegal misuse of properties. The drive has intensified after the collapse of the paying guest accommodation in Satya Niketan. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has also resumed controlled demolition of the building adjoining the collapsed structure.
Officials said the adjoining building was being demolished in a calibrated manner. The report did not provide details of the building’s ownership, construction history or the specific violations identified at each location where enforcement action was taken.
As part of a safety assessment exercise launched after the Satya Niketan incident, MCD teams surveyed 1,252 paying guest buildings between September 7 and September 9. The exercise covers properties operating as paying guest accommodation, which have received increased civic scrutiny following the fatal collapse.
Official records cited in the report show that MCD carried out 1,053 demolition actions between June 1 and September 9. During the same period, the civic body sealed 491 properties and issued 2,316 show-cause notices and 757 demolition notices across Delhi.
The figures cover enforcement activity across the city rather than only the locations identified in the latest drive. A show-cause notice gives a property owner or occupant an opportunity to respond to an alleged violation, while a demolition notice precedes action against a structure under the applicable civic process. The report did not specify how many of the notices were directly linked to paying guest buildings or to the Satya Niketan collapse.
The MCD’s action is continuing across the capital, with further enforcement expected in the areas identified during the ongoing drive.
