Mangaluru Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey has prioritised resolving drinking-water complaints in Ullal Hoye and said approval for a pipeline tender is expected next week, following an inspection of the area and discussions with residents on November 4.
The commissioner travelled by boat to inspect a damaged footbridge and review complaints linked to drinking-water access in the locality. Residents explained the water shortage and issues related to laying a pipeline, while also seeking a bus shelter, improved road access and bus services for the area.
Pandey told residents that the civic body would examine the requests and take action. He said drinking-water problems needed priority because the region could face a long summer and drought-like conditions in the coming months. The statement places the Ullal Hoye water issue within the wider challenge of maintaining reliable urban services during periods of water stress.
For the proposed pipeline work, residents were asked to prepare and submit a representation carrying the signatures and approval of at least 50 residents by November 4. The commissioner said approval for the tender was expected within the following week and that the work would then begin. The report does not specify the planned pipeline length, estimated cost, funding source or the number of households expected to benefit.
The inspection also covered other municipal service systems in Mangaluru. The commissioner visited the material recovery plant operated by Plastic Fischer in Bajal in collaboration with the municipal corporation, where he reviewed the process for recycling and recovering waste.
At a stormwater drain site on the Jeppinamogaru–Kudpady road, representatives of Plastic Fischer explained the organisation’s system for collecting plastic waste through an anchoring arrangement. According to the information provided during the visit, plastic waste is collected every seven to 10 days during normal periods and every four days during the monsoon.
The inspections brought together the municipal deputy commissioner Naresh P. Shenoy and officials from the environment engineering and engineering departments. The immediate milestone for residents of Ullal Hoye is the submission of the signed representation, followed by the expected tender approval and commencement of pipeline work. Further details on the project’s scope and implementation schedule were not provided in the report.
