Mandya Milk Tanker Crash Kills Family of Three, Including Girl

Three members of a family, including a nine-year-old girl, were killed after a milk tanker rammed their motorcycle from behind in Karnataka’s Mandya district early Tuesday, police said.

The crash occurred between 5.30 am and 6 am within the limits of Koppa police station in Maddur taluk, according to the police. The family lived in Kanakapura taluk in Bengaluru South district.

Police said Kavya, her husband Muthu and their two daughters were travelling on the motorcycle after attending the Gauri Ganesha festival at Kavya’s parents’ home when the tanker struck them from behind.

Muthu and his nine-year-old daughter Kirthana died at the scene, police said. Kavya was seriously injured and later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Their other daughter, aged 12, survived the crash without major injuries, a senior police officer said.

The incident occurred on a route being used by a family travelling by motorcycle in the early morning, while the milk tanker was also operating during the same period. Police have not released further details about the tanker driver, the vehicle’s speed or the circumstances immediately before the collision.

A case has been registered in connection with the crash, and police said further investigation was underway.
