The Maharashtra government has sanctioned Rs 2,204 crore for various infrastructure and development projects.
These projects will benefit a wide range of urban areas, including five major municipal corporations, three newly formed corporations, and multiple urban development authorities, under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana. The projects target key cities such as Surat, Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, and Vadodara, alongside the newly established corporations in Anand, Porbandar, and Mehsana. The plan includes ambitious initiatives to transform urban spaces into sustainable, resilient environments, with a focus on providing modern infrastructure while addressing the growing demands of urbanisation.
The allocation of funds will primarily support the construction of new roads, widening existing roads, the installation of underground drainage systems, and the laying of stormwater lines. These measures are expected to significantly reduce congestion and improve the quality of urban living in the targeted cities. Additionally, the projects include the development of public gardens, libraries, and recharge wells, which are crucial for enhancing green spaces and promoting sustainability. In line with global sustainability goals, the government is also prioritising eco-friendly measures such as rainwater harvesting systems, waste management, and the creation of green public spaces. “The emphasis on sustainable urban infrastructure is crucial for the long-term health of our cities,” said an official from the state urban development authority. “By investing in green spaces, water management, and renewable energy, we are preparing Maharashtra for a sustainable future.”
