Madhapur Floodwaters Rescue: HYDRAA Saves Man Trapped in Drain

HYDRAA’s Disaster Response Force and Monsoon Response Teams rescued a man who was swept into a drain and carried nearly 50 metres through an underground pipeline during heavy rain near Durgam Cheruvu in Madhapur, Hyderabad.

According to a press release cited by Telangana Today, the man was riding an electric moped through Vithal Rao Nagar when strong floodwater knocked him down and dragged him into the drain. The force of the water carried him into a large underground pipe constructed recently as part of the Strategic Nala Development Programme works.

The rescue teams entered the drain and searched the pipeline using torchlights after receiving information about the incident. They located the man inside the underground structure and pulled him out safely after a sustained search operation.

The incident occurred as heavy rain caused intense water flow and waterlogging in parts of Madhapur. Durgam Cheruvu and the surrounding areas include major offices, residential developments and heavily used roads, making drainage conditions a significant operational concern during spells of intense rainfall.

The rescued man told the response teams that HYDRAA had saved his life when he was in grave danger, according to the report. The account highlights the risks faced by road users when fast-moving stormwater enters open or covered drainage channels during heavy rain.

HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath visited waterlogged areas in Madhapur and reviewed the situation after the rescue. The agency’s Disaster Response Force and Monsoon Response Teams were involved in locating and bringing the man out of the pipeline.

The underground pipe is part of recently constructed works under the SNDP programme, which is intended to improve the city’s stormwater drainage network. The rescue also brought attention to the potentially hazardous conditions that can develop inside drainage infrastructure when heavy rainfall generates rapid flows through urban channels.

HYDRAA did not provide further details in the cited release about the man’s medical condition, the precise cause of the drain entry or any additional measures planned at the location. The agency’s review of waterlogged areas in Madhapur followed the rescue operation.
