Lucknow Infrastructure Fund Committee Approves Rs 200 Crore for Urban Development

Lucknow, the city’s infrastructure development received a green boost with the sanction of ₹200 crore.

The allocation, approved in the latest Infrastructure Fund Committee meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob, aims to fast-track ongoing projects that blend environmental conservation with civic upliftment. At the centre of this renewed push lies the much-anticipated Green Corridor stretching from Basant Kunj to Pipraghat. With a dedicated outlay of ₹90 crore, the project is set to gain new momentum. Among its major components, ₹50 crore will finance the construction of an embankment from Pipraghat to Shaheed Path, a move expected to strengthen flood resilience and promote connectivity. A further ₹15 crore has been committed to a second embankment leading to Ekana Stadium, while ₹10 crore is being directed toward a road overbridge and VIP spur at the Pipraghat railway crossing.

Additionally, ₹15 crore will support critical ancillary infrastructure such as underground power cabling, signage, utility shifting and rotary development. This investment is not only a signal of intent but also a response to the urgent need for future-ready infrastructure that can accommodate climate shifts, increased mobility demands, and sustainable growth patterns. Complementing these transport and utility works, the city’s ecological backbone is also receiving focused attention. Over ₹10 crore has been earmarked for the beautification of Shaheed Path, with specific provisions for horticulture, irrigation, and urban landscape improvements. Equally notable is the ₹8 crore commitment to the restoration and conservation of Motijheel, Jamuna, and Eldeco lakes—waterbodies critical to the city’s biodiversity, groundwater recharge, and cultural memory. The wetland at CG City is another bright spot in this expansion, where work on a cofferdam is nearing completion, indicating visible progress in stormwater management and eco-restoration.

Looking to enhance liveability, ₹3 crore will fund the creation of a tropical park on the Gomti riverfront near Lakshman Mela Ground. Another major public asset in the making is an entertainment park proposed at Eco Garden, to be developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, aimed at creating accessible recreational space while optimising private sector efficiencies.Urban mobility and pedestrian safety are also high on the agenda, with the construction of a new foot overbridge near Lulu Mall on Shaheed Path. As high-density zones continue to expand, such interventions play a critical role in reducing road fatalities and fostering walkable neighbourhoods.

Adding a cultural dimension to the infrastructure spree, ₹10 crore will fund projects such as the installation of a musical fountain at Neembu Park in Hussainabad, façade enhancements between Rumi Gate and Chhota Imambara, and electrification of museum precincts. In Hazratganj, ₹4 crore has been set aside for placemaking, including pedestrian-friendly design and upgrades to street furniture.Public health and accessibility have not been left behind. Plans to install open gyms in 50 public parks, improve street lighting, and install sculptures at prominent junctions all contribute to a safer and more inclusive urban experience.

Preserving Lucknow’s historical identity, ₹5 crore has been allocated for the restoration of the Rifa-e-Aam Club in Wazirganj, a landmark steeped in the city’s socio-political past. The Amiruddaula Library in Kaiserbagh is also set to be converted into a museum with a ₹2 crore investment.Speaking on the developments, the Vice Chairperson of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) emphasised that the city’s current trajectory is as much about improving infrastructure as it is about elevating quality of life and ecological stewardship.

As the city races to modernise, this ₹200 crore investment package stands as a commitment to not only building better roads and parks but to shaping an equitable, greener and more culturally vibrant Lucknow—one where the past and future coexist meaningfully.
