L&T has secured a large government buildings order valued between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore to construct Central Secretariat buildings in New Delhi and two high-rise office towers in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, the company said on Wednesday. The projects together cover 70.3 lakh sq. ft. of built-up area and are scheduled for completion within 24 to 30 months.
Larsen & Toubro’s Public Spaces, Airports & Health business vertical will execute the New Delhi project for the Central Public Works Department. The order covers Common Central Secretariat buildings 4 and 5 along Kartavya Path.
The two Delhi buildings will each have a basement, ground floor and seven upper floors. Together, they will provide 32.8 lakh sq. ft. of built-up space. L&T’s scope includes structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing works, as well as external development works.
The project will be implemented on an engineering, procurement and construction basis. According to the company’s regulatory filing, construction is scheduled to be completed in 24 months. L&T will also provide operation and maintenance services for five years after completion.
In Andhra Pradesh, the state government has awarded L&T a design-and-build order for two office towers in Amaravati. The towers will be located on either side of the Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre and will each comprise a basement, ground floor and 47 floors.
The Amaravati towers will together have a built-up area of 37.5 lakh sq. ft. L&T’s scope for the project includes shell and core works, with completion scheduled in 30 months. Unlike the Delhi contract, the Amaravati order has been described as a design-and-build project.
The two projects place L&T at the centre of public-sector building activity in both the national capital and Andhra Pradesh’s planned capital region. They also show the different delivery requirements involved in government construction: the Delhi assignment combines building works with a defined post-completion maintenance period, while the Amaravati contract is focused on the design-and-build delivery of large office towers.
L&T classifies orders valued between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore as large. The announcement was made through a regulatory filing, providing details of the clients, building configurations, built-up areas, scope of work and expected completion periods.
L&T shares were trading at Rs 3,630 at around 1:39 pm on Wednesday, according to the Economic Times report, and were almost flat at 0.66 per cent below the day’s opening price. The company’s next stated milestones are the execution of the Delhi works within 24 months and completion of the Amaravati towers within 30 months.
