A technical fault near Sawarde on the Konkan Railway route halted train operations in both directions for about 90 minutes on Saturday, delaying the Mumbai–Ratnagiri Jan Shatabdi and Tejas Express services along with other trains during the busy Ganeshotsav travel period.
The fault occurred at around 11.30 am, approximately eight kilometres from Sawarde station. Following the disruption, passengers travelling towards Ratnagiri from Mumbai were held at Sawarde station while the railway administration began repair work.
By about 1.15 pm, the Jan Shatabdi, Tejas Express and other trains travelling from Mumbai towards Ratnagiri were still being held at the station, according to the report. Train movement on both sides of the affected section had been suspended after the technical problem was detected.
Passengers had to wait at the station until services could resume. The disruption caused particular difficulty for children and senior citizens travelling during the Ganeshotsav period, when demand on the Konkan Railway route is elevated. The railway has operated several special trains to accommodate the seasonal increase in passengers.
The disruption also affected the wider timetable. Some trains were reported to be running approximately four hours behind their scheduled times after the technical fault. The report did not specify the exact nature of the fault or provide a revised timetable for each affected service.
The incident comes as the route handles increased passenger movement towards the Konkan region for the festival. With trains from both directions held during the repair operation, delays extended beyond the services directly stopped near Sawarde and affected passengers waiting at the station and along the route.
The Konkan Railway administration took up restoration work immediately after the fault was reported. Further train movement and timetable normalisation depend on the completion of repairs and the railway’s operational clearance for the affected section.
