Mira Bhayandar recorded the immersion of 22,441 Ganpati and Gauri idols during this year’s Ganesh festival, including 3,749 idols on Anant Chaturdashi, according to data released by the municipal corporation.
The final-day immersion took place on Friday and included household and public Ganpati idols. Of the idols immersed that day, 176 were more than six feet tall. The civic administration also reported a large number of Gauri idols being immersed along with the Ganpati idols.
Across the festival, the municipal corporation recorded 6,395 Shadu clay idols and 15,817 Plaster of Paris idols. The overall count of 22,441 includes Ganpati and Gauri idols, as well as the categories recorded by the administration.
For smaller idols, the administration had created artificial ponds to support the immersion process. These facilities were intended to provide designated immersion points within the city for smaller household idols.
The municipality used Ro-Ro service for the immersion of large idols in the creek for the first time this year. The service was used for large public idols, including those exceeding six feet in height. The move formed part of the civic arrangements for handling larger idols during the final day of the festival.
The data also shows that Plaster of Paris idols accounted for the larger share of the recorded immersion figures, while Shadu idols formed the other major category reported by the municipality. The administration separately recorded 229 idols taller than six feet during the full festival period.
Anant Chaturdashi brought the highest concentration of immersion activity, with household and public processions taking place across Mira Bhayandar. The municipal figures cover the city’s festival immersion operations, including idols handled through artificial ponds and the Ro-Ro arrangement in the creek.
The civic administration’s next operational milestone is the completion of immersion-related arrangements and the handling of the remaining post-festival civic work at the designated sites and creek locations.
