Kolkata train cancellations and schedule changes will affect Eastern Railway services in the Howrah division during a track maintenance block on Sunday, with four express trains rescheduled, around 50 local trains cancelled and several services controlled during their journeys.
The affected local trains originate from or operate through major suburban locations including Howrah, Bandel, Arambagh, Memari, Katwa, Azimganj, Burdwan, Asansol and Rampurhat. The cancellations are linked to maintenance work being carried out across several stretches of the division, according to Eastern Railway officials cited by the Times of India.
Among the express services facing changes are the Bolpur Santiniketan-Howrah Express and the Rampurhat-Sealdah Maa Tara Express. The source report did not provide the revised timings for all four rescheduled express trains, but confirmed that the changes would be implemented because of the maintenance block.
The block will affect multiple sections at different times. On the Up Howrah-Barddhaman Chord Line, the Liluah-Belur section will remain under the block from 10.20 am to 1.20 pm. The reverse line between Konnagar and Rishra will be affected from noon to 3 pm, while the reverse main line between Seoraphuli and Bhadreswar will have a block from 11.45 am to 2.45 pm.
The Tarakeswar-Mayapur single-line section will also be affected between 11.20 am and 2.20 pm. The staggered timing of the blocks means that service disruptions will occur across different parts of the suburban network during the day rather than being confined to one corridor.
Some trains will be controlled while already in transit. The Howrah-Arambagh Local will be held for 25 minutes en route, while the Godda-Sealdah MEMU will be controlled for more than an hour. The Jaynagar-Howrah Express will face a 30-minute control during its journey over the Malda Division.
The affected corridors connect Howrah and Sealdah with a wide network of suburban and regional destinations. With local services cancelled from several originating stations and other trains being held or rescheduled, the maintenance work will alter both daily commuter operations and longer-distance rail movements during the block period. Eastern Railway officials said the blocks had been planned across several stretches for track maintenance work.
