Pune–Lonavala Local Trains Cancelled as Railway Block Disrupts Services

Four Pune–Lonavala suburban train services will remain cancelled on October 25 as Central Railway undertakes pedestrian subway construction between Dehu Road and Begdewadi stations, while two express trains will face delays of three and a half hours.

The Pune Division will impose a four-hour block on both the up and down lines from 11.40 am to 3.40 pm to carry out the work. The block is required for the insertion of reinforced cement concrete segmental boxes using the RH Girder method, according to the railway administration.

The affected suburban services are Train Nos. 99814 and 99818, both operating from Pune to Lonavala; Train No. 99813, operating from Lonavala to Pune; and Train No. 99817, operating from Lonavala to Shivajinagar. Passengers travelling between Pune, Lonavala and intermediate stations have been advised to plan their journeys around the construction block.

The work is intended to provide safer pedestrian movement between Dehu Road and Begdewadi stations. The subway construction will affect both local services and long-distance trains passing through the section during the block period.

Train No. 12164, the MGR Chennai Central–Mumbai LTT Express, which began its journey on October 24, will be regulated en route for three hours and 30 minutes in the Solapur or Pune Division. The regulation means that the train’s movement will be held or adjusted while it passes through the affected railway operations area.

The departure of Train No. 11029, the CSMT Mumbai–Kolhapur Express, has also been rescheduled on October 25. The train will leave CSMT Mumbai at 12.10 pm instead of its scheduled departure time of 8.40 am, resulting in a delay of three hours and 30 minutes.

The disruption highlights the operational challenge of carrying out safety-related railway construction on a busy suburban and long-distance route. The Pune–Lonavala section serves daily passengers travelling between Pune, Shivajinagar, Lonavala and intermediate stations, while the same corridor also carries trains connecting Mumbai, Pune and other cities.

Central Railway has said the infrastructure work is necessary to improve operational safety and facilitate safer pedestrian movement in the Pune Division. The administration has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers.

Passengers have been advised to check the latest running status and revised timings before beginning their journeys. Updates are available through the Indian Railways enquiry portal and the National Train Enquiry System mobile application. The cancellations and revised timings will apply on October 25 during the scheduled infrastructure block.
