Passengers travelling through eastern India later this month are likely to experience changes to rail operations as infrastructure upgrades around the New Jalpaiguri railway yard trigger temporary alterations to several train services. The scheduled engineering programme centres on the commissioning of a Multi-Section Digital Axle Counter system, a modern signalling technology designed to detect train occupancy more accurately and support safer movement of trains through complex junctions. During the implementation period between 26 and 28 July, a number of passenger services connected with West Bengal, including routes serving Kolkata, will face cancellations, short terminations and revised departure timings.Among the affected services are selected passenger trains operating between New Jalpaiguri and Haldibari, while the Howrah–New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express will temporarily operate only up to Kishanganj before returning towards Kolkata.
