Kolkata’s Green Line driverless metro project has moved a step closer to passenger operations as railway safety authorities carried out a statutory inspection of the corridor before automated train services can be introduced. The assessment marks a crucial regulatory milestone for one of India’s most technologically advanced urban transit corridors and could influence how future metro systems are rolled out in other cities.

The inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety is designed to evaluate whether the corridor’s infrastructure, signalling systems, rolling stock and operational procedures meet the standards required for unattended train operations.
