Khandwa Crash Case Takes Unusual Turn as Dead Biker Is Booked

Khandwa police have registered a case against a 28-year-old biker who died after a road crash, booking him for rash and negligent driving and for causing death by negligence. The FIR was filed two months after the accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district.

Mukesh Patel, a resident of Jabalpur, was working as a crane operator at an irrigation project in the Narmada Nagar area. According to police records, he was riding a motorcycle on Punasa-Satwas Road at around 11.15 pm on August 15 when a pig came in front of the vehicle near a dhaba.

Patel lost control of the motorcycle and fell, police records state. The pig died at the spot, while Patel suffered serious injuries. Another person who was reportedly riding with him fled from the scene after the crash.

Patel was first taken to a nearby hospital. His family later moved him to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College in Jabalpur, where he died during treatment a few days after the accident.

The Narmada Nagar police registered the FIR after receiving the marg, or incident diary, from Gada police station in Jabalpur on Friday. Police said the delay resulted from the time taken for the documents to reach Khandwa and the intervening festival-related workload.

The case invokes Sections 281, 125(A) and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Section 281 relates to rash or negligent driving on a public way. Section 125(A) concerns an act endangering the life or personal safety of others, while Section 106(1) deals with causing death by a rash or negligent act.

The registration has created the unusual situation of a deceased person being named as the accused in an FIR arising from the crash in which he died. Police said the case was registered on the basis of the marg diary received from Jabalpur.

Khandwa Superintendent of Police Agam Jain said the matter was being looked into. The report does not provide further details on any additional investigation or action involving the other person who was reportedly travelling with Patel.
