Karnataka Rain Forecast Warns of Heavy Showers in 8 Districts

The India Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms and heavy rain in parts of Karnataka on October 5 and 6, with Chikkamagaluru, Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Hassan, Mandya, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada among the districts that could receive intense showers in isolated locations.

The forecast, reported by Prajavani, covers the beginning of the week and indicates that several districts may experience different rainfall conditions over the following days. The forecast is relevant to road travel, local movement and weather preparedness in Bengaluru, the coastal belt and Karnataka’s hilly regions.

On Monday, October 5, heavy rain accompanied by thunder is possible at one or two places in the hilly areas of Karnataka. Chikkamagaluru, Chamarajanagar, Mysuru and Shivamogga are expected to see heavy rain in some areas. Moderate rain is possible at isolated locations in Mandya, Bengaluru South, Tumakuru, Hassan, Kodagu, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Vijayanagara, Davanagere, Ballari and Chitradurga.

The forecast for Tuesday, October 6, identifies parts of Chikkamagaluru, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan and Shivamogga as areas where heavy thunderstorms may occur. Moderate rain is possible in Bengaluru South, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Tumakuru, Kodagu, Vijayanagara, Davanagere, Ballari and Chitradurga.

The weather pattern is expected to ease in several districts from Wednesday. On October 7, thunderstorms are possible at one or two places in Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Shivamogga. At the same time, Ballari, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Bengaluru South, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara are expected to have dry weather.

Light to moderate rain is possible at one or two places in Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Shivamogga on October 8 and 9. On October 10, isolated light to moderate showers may occur in Hassan, Mysuru, Davanagere, Kodagu, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru. The forecast indicates dry conditions for several other districts, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru South, Ballari, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Kolar, Mandya, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara.

In north Karnataka, Haveri, Gadag and Dharwad may receive moderate thunderstorms at isolated locations on October 5 and 6, while most parts of Bagalkot, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Yadgir and Raichur are expected to remain dry. On October 7, isolated light rain is possible in Haveri, Belagavi and Dharwad.

The forecast indicates moderate rain at isolated locations in Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri and Gadag on October 8. Light rain may occur in Gadag, Dharwad and Haveri on October 9 and 10, while most other northern districts are expected to have dry weather. The IMD forecast period therefore places the heaviest rainfall risk in isolated parts of southern, central and hill districts, while conditions vary across the state through October 10.
