Karnataka Rain Forecast: Heavy Showers Threaten 8 Districts

The Karnataka rain forecast points to thunderstorms and heavy showers in parts of eight districts, including Hassan, Udupi, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru, over the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The forecast covers parts of southern Karnataka, the Malnad region and the coast, while several northern districts are expected to remain largely dry.

For Monday and Tuesday, isolated heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in Chikkamagaluru, Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Hassan, Mandya, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. The IMD has also forecast moderate rain, with thunderstorms in some locations, across parts of the north interior and coastal regions.

The forecast is significant for hill and coastal areas, where intense rain can affect road movement, drainage and access to settlements. The IMD said that one or two places in Karnataka’s hilly areas could receive heavy rain with thunderstorms on Monday evening. Chikkamagaluru, Chamarajanagar, Mysuru and Shivamogga are expected to see heavy rainfall during the period.

Several districts around Bengaluru may receive moderate rain on Monday. These include Bengaluru South, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Tumakuru, Hassan, Mandya, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Vijayapura, Ballari, Vijayanagara, Davanagere and Chitradurga. The forecast indicates that rainfall may be localised, with only one or two places in some districts receiving moderate showers.

On Tuesday, heavy rain with thunderstorms is possible in parts of Chikkamagaluru, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan and Shivamogga. Moderate rain may occur in Bengaluru South, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Tumakuru, Kodagu, Vijayanagara, Davanagere, Ballari and Chitradurga. The localised nature of the forecast means conditions may vary sharply between neighbouring areas.

The outlook becomes more limited from Wednesday. Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Shivamogga could receive thunderstorms at one or two locations, while light to moderate rain is possible in parts of the same districts on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, light to moderate rain may occur in parts of Hassan, Mysuru, Davanagere, Kodagu, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru. Several districts in the Bengaluru region, along with Ballari, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Kolar, Mandya, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara, are expected to experience dry weather during parts of this period.

In north interior Karnataka, Haveri, Gadag and Dharwad may receive moderate rain with thunderstorms at one or two places on Monday and Tuesday. Light rain is possible in Haveri, Belagavi and Dharwad on Wednesday, while Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri and Gadag may receive moderate rain at isolated locations on Thursday. The IMD forecast indicates largely dry weather in districts including Bagalkote, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Vijayapura, Yadgir and Raichur through much of the period.

The forecast does not indicate uniform rainfall across the state. Instead, it identifies concentrated periods of heavy or thunderstorm activity in selected districts, followed by lighter or isolated showers in the Malnad and northern areas. The next forecast updates from the IMD will determine whether the intensity and geographic spread of the rain changes.
